Format Question- By Project or by role
You should submit each project with Section 3.6 through 3.10 and then you would start on the next project, starting with 3.6 again and going through 3.10.
Let me know if you have any additional questions.
3rd person vs. 1st person
You can fill out the application in 1st person or what some applicants do is leave out the "I's". For example:
PreDesign: Was in charge of Project Procedures Manual for the project. Handeled Predesign Project Conference.
If that doesn't make sense please feel free to call the office at 703-356-2622.

Format Question - By Project or By Role
In Section 3.6, the application is organized by project. The applicant fills in all information (i.e. Type, Size/Scope, and Responsible In Charge experience) for each individual project.
However, in Section 3.7 it appears the application is organized by role. If the applicant is using 3 different projects, does he/she fill in each of the project's experience under each Role (i.e. Pre-Design), or does the applicant fill out a separate Section 3.7 for each project?
Pre-Design
Project 1 experience
Project 2 experience
Project 3 experience
Design
Project 1 experience
Project 2 experience
Project 3 experience
etc.
--------------OR-------------
Project 1
Pre-Design Experience
Design Experience
Etc.
Project 2
Pre-Design Experience
Design Experience
etc.
Etc.
3rd person vs. 1st person
This is probably an odd question, however, I am trying to decide whether to type the application in 3rd person (i.e. Mr. x performed this function, Mr. x was Responsible-In-Charge throughout the project, etc. vs. "I" performed this function, "I" was Responsible-In-Charge throughout the project, etc.). 3rd Person seems more formal, but 1st person seems to much I, I , I. Can anyone share what form they submitted their application in and/or any thoughts or suggestions regarding this?
Project Type
Under 3.6 Project Type you want to fill it out as you had assumed with "Lump Sum". Under Section 3.7, that is where you should have about 2-4 pages for each project submitted. These pages should go into detail about your responsibilities on the project under each Catagory.
Project Type
Under Project Experience Documentation, the applicant is to fill in "Project Type." Can someone clarify what type of information is to be included in this section. The FAQ page says that one should type 2-4 pages for each project so I am wondering what would you state in this section beyond ,for example, "lump sum."
Examples of Pre-Design and Design Experience

Examples of Pre-Design and Design Experiece
Can anyone provide examples of qualified experience in the Pre-Design and Design section?

CCM Exam Retake
Hi Scott -
You would want to look at the score diagnostics that you recieved with your failing score. This will show you what areas you need to review and study harder.
There are also, CM Standards of Practice Study Courses that you can sign up to take. Please try checking out the Professional Development for these.
Please contact Kate Brundage, kbrundage@cmaanet.org when you are ready to sign up for the retake.
Thanks!
CCM Exam Retake
I met the requirements and unfortunately did not pass the exam. Notification was given to me that I will be eligible to retake the exam in February '10. What steps do I need to complete prior to retaking the examination.
Scott
Exam
You want to purchase the CM Standards of Practice Study kit:
A seven-volume compendium of the CMAA body of knowledge emphasizing CM core competencies. The kit includes the CMAA Capstone, CM Standard of Practice (soft cover), CMAA Contract Administration, CMAA Cost Management Procedures, CMAA Quality Management Guidelines, and CMAA Time Management Procedures as well as the four-document set of both A-Series and CM At-Risk Contract documents.

what is the text book for the exam?
is it CM SOP or the whole study kit?
CM as a Career - Thinking Long Term - Average Salary?
I am currently working for a CAD/BIM Reseller. I do have a BA in a field completely unrelated to Construction. My work at my current employer has give me great interest in Construction Management.
Getting down to the nuts and bolts of it - if I choose this route as a career I need to consider the pros and cons, here are a few questions that I am pondering:
I have no experience in the GC/CM/Eng/Arc community at all other than selling them software and teaching them the fundamental concepts of BIM. What steps should I take in order to be marketable in this industry?
Another sober question: I am considering receiving my CM Certificate, but my long term goal may be to received my Master's in CM. What are the average salaries of Construction Managers?
I truly appreciate your response! ANY ADVISE IS WELCOME.

Safety Management
The construction safety is the responsibility of the contractor and not the Construction Manager.
The Construction Managers responsibility is to make sure that the contractor is following the state mandated OSHA regulations and leave the day to day safety management to the contractor.
Having said that please elaborate on the type of experience required in Qualification Matrix for Safety Management

General Contractor
The best way for you to determine your eligibilty would be for you to look at the Qualifications Matrix:
This matrix represents the functions/roles of a Construction Manager during project phases as defined by CMAA in its publication CM Standards of Practice. The bracketed areas represent the MINIMUM qualifying experience for the 48 month CM experience. This is cumulative experience; you do not need 48 months in each area. In order to enroll in the program, you MUST have experience in the bracketed areas. If you do not have the requisite experience, please do not submit an application at this time.
There are 30 possible experience areas; for each function/role and phase ask yourself the following question:
Did the decisions that you were empowered to make directly impact the successful completion of the project and were you directly responsible in charge of construction management services and for protecting the interests of the project/owner?
If you can answer "yes "to both parts of the question, then place an "X" in the area; if you answer "no" then do not place an "X". To qualify for the program, you MUST be able to answer "yes" to all of the required areas as marked by the brackets. If you cannot answer "yes" to the required areas, then do not submit an application at this time. You will be asked to verify this experience in the project attachments in the application.

Dear Moderator:
I have also been in the construction industry for 14 years, but have limited construction management background (about 4 years). I am presently attending college for my undergraduate degree and want to incorporate the CM certification program into my "focus area". I have been an estimator for a curtain wall supplier for a couple of years, also. Does this qualify as sufficient experience?...Jeff
No Degree
I have 14 years experience as a Construction Manager and as a Project Manager; will this experience enable me to become certified by CMAA as long as I pass all the exams? Or will I need a Degree before becoming certified?
